Railway Supply Institute Celebrates Launch of NextGen Acela Trains

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) is proud to celebrate the culmination of years of hard work by Amtrak and the rail supply industry as Amtrak’s new NextGen Acela trains formally enter service on Thursday, Aug. 28.

This launch marks a significant milestone for passenger rail and is a testament to the strength of American manufacturing. The new Acela fleet, built by RSI member Alstom in Hornell, N.Y., with several RSI members partnering as suppliers, is the product of the industry’s continued investment in the U.S.’s passenger rail manufacturing capabilities.

Amtrak’s NextGen Acela not only enhances riders’ transportation options along North America’s busiest rail corridor but also supported approximately 15,000 U.S. jobs across the economy during varying stages of development. The new fleet was a collaborative effort, with Alstom and Amtrak collaborating with over 180 suppliers across 29 states.

“The debut of the NextGen Acela fleet is a moment of immense pride for our industry,” said RSI President Jim Riley, who was in attendance for the ceremonial launch at Washington D.C.’s Union Station on Wednesday, Aug. 27. “This project demonstrates the vital role of the railway supply industry in driving innovation and economic growth nationwide.”
