RSI Statement on the Senate Passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

Washington, D.C. – Railway Supply Institute (RSI) Senior Vice President of Government and Public Affairs Nicole Brewin released the following statement praising the Senate passage of the bipartisan infrastructure legislation, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act:

“The Senate passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is a huge victory for the railway supply industry. This bill makes historic investments in passenger rail and public transit, allowing intercity passenger rail systems and transit agencies around the country to repair and replace aging fleets, rebuild core infrastructure, expand service, and improve safety and accessibility. The bill also makes important investments into key programs that freight railroads can use to improve the safety and efficiency of the nation’s rail network.

“In addition to providing robust funding levels, this bill also makes several substantive policy changes that will strengthen American competitiveness, improve supply chain security, and expand opportunities for railway suppliers. This includes creating new content restrictions for freight cars entering into interchange service in the United States, ensuring that foreign state-owned enterprises are not able to leverage state subsidies and other resources to undermine the domestic supply industry. It also includes provisions that will modernize eligible activity and increase federal contributions to the Section 130 Grade Crossing Program, a program that has helped reduce grade crossing collisions by 37% over the past two decades.

“RSI commends Congress and President Biden for their work in advancing this bipartisan bill and we urge the House of Representatives to follow the Senate’s lead in swiftly passing this legislation.”
