Jonathan Starks and Joseph Towers from FTR joins us as we provide an economic outlook, insights into the data and trends, and more.

Jonathan Starks, CEO at FTR

Jon is the CEO at FTR. He has spent his entire career in the freight transportation sector having joined FTR in 2001. Jon’s expertise includes freight modeling, modal analysis, fleet characteristics, and equipment demand. He is directly responsible for producing FTR’s Freight-cast transportation model, producing more than 13 million datapoints and 85,000 forecasted items each and every month.

In addition to his work on freight analysis he assists with forecasting the equipment markets, dealing with the demand outlook for medium-duty trucks, heavy-duty trucks, and freight railcars. He is the secondary developer of FTR’s Economically Derived Demand model for medium-duty trucks (founder Ed Graham’s initial work was vital to the process). Jon is also a regular presenter at FTR’s Annual Freight Transportation Conference and at company meetings and industry events.

Jon graduated from Marian University with his BA degree in Business Administration. He currently resides in Bedford, Ind. with his wife, Amanda, and their daughters, Ashley, Addison and Abigail.

Joseph Towers, Senior Analyst, Rail, FTR

Joseph Towers is the Senior Analyst, Rail. Joseph began his career at Trinity Industries where his primary responsibilities included market research and economic forecasting, informing the organization on the current and future trends for different commodity groups and their respective railcar types. Specifically, he provided commentary and quantitative analysis surrounding railcar loadings, equipment deliveries & attrition, and equipment utilizations rates.

Transitioning from Trinity, Joseph worked at Oliver Wyman, a distinguished management consulting firm, as a freight rail specialist, working directly with Class Is, shortlines, OEMs, operators and private equity clients. His project work included market sizing, mergers & acquisitions as well as analyzing the impacts of legislation, disruptive technologies and shifting market trends in freight transportation. Joseph’s expertise lies in market analysis, data science and economics forecasting. He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in economics from Texas A&M University, with a concentration in financial econometrics.

Sheena Prevette, RSI Director of Regulatory & Industry Affairs

Sheena is responsible for supporting the RSI Quality Assurance, Equipment Leasing, and American Railway Car Institute (ARCI) committees. Prevette has experience leading international innovation projects, directing process design, managing technical and quality assurance program reviews, and overseeing regulatory certifications for facilities throughout North America.
