Thomas D. Simpson Annual Scholarship Program

Since 1989, the Railway Supply Institute, with the assistance of member donations, has awarded scholarships to full time undergraduate students whose parents work throughout the rail supply community. In 2018, RSI was pleased to rename the RSI scholarship the Thomas D. Simpson Annual Undergraduate Scholarship in honor of RSI’s retiring president.

Over 140 students have received the RSI Scholarship which has contributed to their education in a variety of degrees such as nursing, teaching, engineering, business, and transportation specialists. The RSI scholarship is competitive and based on the applicant’s academic achievement, community / school involvement, and essay response. A minimum of five scholarships in the amount of  $5,000 each is given to scholarship recipients. 

Applicants must be the child or dependent of a current employee whose company is a member of the Railway Supply Institute or a member of the Air Brake Association, Inc. (ABA), the International Association of Railway Operating Officers (IAROO), the League of Railway Women (LRW), Locomotive Maintenance Officers Association (LMOA), or the Railcar Technical Services Association (RTSA, formerly MARTS)

Application & Requirements

COVID-19 Update: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, RSI has waived the requirement for applicants to supply a letter of recommendation from a faculty member of their school.
