Amsted Rail Hosts Congressman Bill Enyart at Illinois Facility

February 6, 2014. Amsted Rail Company, a Railway Supply Institute member, hosted Representative Bill Enyart (D-Ill. 12) at their Granite City, Illinois facility last December. The Congressman met with staff and toured the home of over 700 jobs in his district which has been in operation for over one hundred years. The facility visit, set up with the help of GoRail,  was an opportunity for Amsted to illustrate its commitment to Granite City and its role in the local economy.

“Our significant capital investment in the latest manufacturing technologies and a highly trained workforce enable us to meet market demand and provide a large number (>500) of good paying local union jobs in Granite City plus over 185 salaried employees”, wrote John Wories, Amsted’s President, in a letter to Rep. Enyart. “This activity carries over to many local supplier and service providers.”

Amsted Rail’s Granite City foundry dates to 1902 and manufactures a variety of large steel castings for freight railroad cars including draft sills, truck bolsters, truck side frames, yokes, and couplers. The facility occupies approximately 80 acres and has 800,000 square feet under roof.

As part of the Railway Supply Institute’s mission to promote the railway supply industry, members are encouraged to host similar events and to educate decision-makers in Washington, DC about the rail supply industry and why it is important to their communities and the economic engine of the United States.
