Senators Rockefeller, Thune Introduces a Bill to Reauthorize the Surface Transportation Board and Senator Blumenthal Introduces a Rail Safety Bill

Senators John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV (D-WV) and Senator John Thune (R-SD), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, have introduced the Surface Transportation Board Reauthorization Act of 2014. The bill would give the Surface Transportation Board (STB) more authority to investigate on its own. It would also speed the STB’s ability to rule on complaints by shippers that rail companies charge them too much to move their goods. View section-by-section of STB bill.

In addition, Senator Blumenthal (D-CT) has introduced a Rail Safety Bill that among other things would provide funding to commuter railroads to help them install positive train control systems and addresses operating practices for the transportation of crude oil and flammable liquids.
