House Appropriations Committee Approves Department of Transportation Spending Bill

The House Appropriations Committee voted 30-21 to approve their version of the Fiscal Year 2016 Transportation-HUD appropriations bill that would provide $55.26 billion in discretionary spending for infrastructure and housing programs. Ranking Member Nita Lowey (D-NY) offered an amendment which would increase funds authorized for Grade Crossing Safety from $220 million to $350 million and the amendment was agreed to by voice vote.

The Committee rejected Democratic amendments including those that would have increased capital funding for transportation and housing programs as well as strike policy riders related to increasing truck size and weight. RSI is opposed to these TSW policy riders and has written to the Appropriations Committee. Similar provisions are feared in the upcoming Senate bill.  We will continue to monitor and stay engaged with the Senate Appropriators.
