Senate Extends Highway Programs for Two Months

May 28, 2015 – Washington, DC – On Saturday, May 23rd, the Senate voted to extend surface transportation authorization (HR 2353) for two months, to July 31, in a move designed to give Congress time to reach agreement a longer-term highway and transit bill. The House already voted to extend the authorization, and the Senate cleared the measure for the president’s signature. Lawmakers are doing the short-term extension because they haven’t agreed on how to fund a longer reauthorization.
