Washington Affairs Committee

Chair: John Paljug, VP Signaling and Crossings, Safetran Systems Corp

Chair: Thomas J. Gillespie, Jr., Legislative Rep., ALSTOM Transportation

Open to all members, but with an emphasis on member companies in the Communication & Signaling, MOW and Passenger industries. This committee and its working groups represent these segments of the industry in Washington, DC. Legislative issues of interest include: supporting the Class I railroads efforts opposed to reregulation; lobbying against bigger trucks; supporting the Section 130 highway-rail grade crossing program; supporting railroads in securing tax incentives to increase capacity, securing federal investment for Positive Train Control and High Speed Rail and supporting Amtrak's legislative goals. In addition, the committee works very closely with Operation Lifesaver to reduce the deaths and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and along railroad rights-of-way through education programs for the public.

This committee was formed when the Maintenance of Way, Grade Crossing Safety, Train Control and Passenger committees were combined in 2009.
