Washington, DC, May 15, 2017 - The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) is proud to participate in the May 15-19, 2017 observance of Infrastructure Week, joining businesses, labor organizations, elected officials and more to spread the message about why it is #TimeToBuild, RSI officials said today.
“The railway supply industry strongly supports Infrastructure Week, the goal of which is to raise awareness of the importance of a strong and reliable infrastructure,” said RSI President Tom Simpson. “Every piece of the North American railroad system — with more than 1.4 million railcars pulled by more than 26,000 locomotives across 140,000 miles of rail — was made possible by railway suppliers for their railroad partners. And just as the U.S. economy depends upon our railroads, a key part of America’s transportation infrastructure, to move freight and people, railroads depend on the railway supply industry to operate safely and efficiently.”
During Infrastructure week, the Railway Supply Institute is holding advocacy events for its members, including a webinar regarding current issues facing Amtrak, a meeting of the RSI Government & Public Affairs Committee (GPAC), and their annual RSI/Amtrak Executive Roundtable with Amtrak President and CEO Wick Moorman and his Executive Staff.
“Railway Supply Institute members represent more than 100,000 rail supply industry employees in 45 states,” Simpson continued. “During Infrastructure Week and all through the year, we welcome the opportunity to work with local, state and federal governments to enhance and promote investment in rail infrastructure to continue to grow America’s economy while creating and sustaining jobs,” he concluded.
“The benefits of a stronger, better infrastructure system will be far-reaching and long-lasting,” said Zach Schafer, director of Infrastructure Week. “During Infrastructure Week, we bring together the public and private sector to encourage lawmakers to think long-term and invest in infrastructure at the federal, state and local level.”
