The RSI Committee on Tank Cars considers all aspects of providing railroads and shippers with tank cars and services, emphasizing safety, construction and public relations. Membership on this committee is restricted to companies engaged in the manufacture, ownership, or leasing of railroad tank cars.
The committee regularly reviews tank car requirements through its’ membership on the Association of American Railroads (AAR) Tank Car Committee and remains at the forefront of the latest research to improve tank car safety. In addition, the committee jointly sponsors with AAR, the RSI/AAR Tank Car Safety Research Project. Finally, the committee was influential in protecting tank car owners’ interest as the Surface Transportation Board took over the responsibilities of the Interstate Commerce Commission.
The Tank Car Committee has two subcommittees, the Engineering/Technical and the Railroad Service Relations Subcommittees.
