Chairman — Thomas J. Gillespie, Jr.
Legislative Representative
ALSTOM Transportation, Inc.
Twenty-five percent of annual railway supply industry sales is to passenger railroads including Amtrak, commuter authorities, and rail transit systems. The goal of RSI's committee on passenger transportation, which is comprised of representatives from those member companies who supply passenger railroads and transit agencies, is to promote the movement of passengers by rail and positively affect legislation and regulations affecting domestic suppliers to rail passenger systems. The committee strongly supports Buy America regulations.
A key issue for this committee is maintaining a healthy intercity passenger rail system; accordingly, the committee spends a great deal of time monitoring Amtrak issues. Every year the committee lobbies appropriations committees for maximum funding for Amtrak, as well as for metropolitan transit systems. Committee members regularly testify at congressional appropriations hearings, and have continually fought for Amtrak when funding reductions have been proposed for the railroad.
